This has been a vanity blog from the start. Those of you who do read it regularly know that I haven't posted now for over a month. If you have looked down the right side of the main page of this blog, you have seen the links to my books. I have chosen to spend time working on a new one rather than spend a lot of time rehashing news about trains, railroads, and passenger rail that you can find elsewhere on the internet.
To facilitate getting my thoughts on rail-related matters out there in a timely fashion without spending a lot of time working on and editing a single article before putting it up, I'm going to try more live posting, where I will write a few lines or paragraphs more often and post them immediately. I'm likely to seem a little more opinionated like this, if that's possible, because the filters of rereading something a day or two after writing it will all be off. But that's okay. The blog o sphere has evolved into something a little more immediate, and I'm going to go with it.
In another shift in direction... This weekend's big news is that Amtrak is not going to cut routes off at the knees on January 1, 2019, if they don't have PTC. It appears that some or all of the groundswell of support for the Southwest Chief and other trains that would have been curtailed by the position has worked. I'll have more to say about it in a day or two.
